‘Hazardous winter conditions are expected’
Environment and Climate Change Canada calls for snow to ice to freezing rain back to snow
Eastern and southern New Brunswick - including the capital region - will see a rotating mix of precipitation Saturday into Sunday, so travel in the area will be tricky, says the federal weather service.
Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather service issued a special weather statement early Friday morning, advising of expected inclement weather beginning Saturday around noon and continuing into Sunday.
But that special weather statement has now been replaced with a winter storm warning, and such alerts go out when different types of severe winter weather are expected to occur over a short time period.

“Snow, heavy at times, will change to ice pellets then freezing rain tonight then changing briefly back to snow overnight before ending early Sunday morning,” states the federal warning, which was last updated shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday.
The warning is in effect for parts of southern and eastern New Brunswick, it said, and that does cover Fredericton and surrounding communities.
The federal warning for the area indicates snowfall amounting to 15 to 30 centimetres is expected, and the freezing rain is forecast to last from three to six hours.
Not surprisingly, the storm warning notes that the weather is likely to make it challenging to get around the area.
“Hazardous winter conditions are expected,” it said.
“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.”
