Haneytown man acquitted of robbery
Judge finds Crown failed to prove Chad Richard Atkinson, 31, had intent to steal from TD teller in Oromocto branch last summer or to use pellet gun in backpack to commit crime
After almost a year in custody on attempted-robbery and weapons charges, Chad Atkinson once again became a free man Friday.
Fredericton provincial court Judge Natalie LeBlanc rendered her decision on trial Friday, acquitting Atkinson, 31, of Farnham Road in Haneytown, on charges of attempted robbery, possessing a pellet gun for the purpose of committing an offence, carrying a concealed weapon and breaching probation.
The charges arose after the RCMP received a call the afternoon of Aug. 30 that there was a robbery in progress at the TD Bank branch on Onondoga Street in Oromocto.
