Handsy cabbie convicted of sex assault
Judge rejects defendant’s testimony, finds Crown proved crimes beyond reasonable doubt in accepting victim’s account that Akram Al Khalifa, 38, of Fredericton, exposed penis to her
A judge convicted a former taxi driver of sexual assault and an indecent act last week, noting he believed the victim when she said the offender touched her and pulled out his penis as he drove her home.
Akram Al Khalifa, 38, of Hawkins Street in Fredericton, stood trial previously on summary charges of sexually assaulting a woman and committing an indecent act.
The victim’s identity is protected by a court-ordered publication ban.
Judge Scott Brittain - appearing in Fredericton provincial court remote by video conference - rendered his decision on the trial Thursday.
