A judge ruled Tuesday that while the Crown proved a Fredericton man fired a rifle recklessly in Geary in 2023, it didn’t prove he did so with the intent of wounding a specific man.

Darrell Richard Barnes, 52, of no fixed address, stood trial over the course of two days in February and March on serious firearms allegations dating back to Oct. 3, 2023.

He was accused of discharging a rifle at Dustin Madden with intent to wound or endanger his life, pointing a rifle at Madden and possessing the rifle without a licence.

The defendant was back in Fredericton provincial court in person and in custody Tuesday to hear Judge Natalie LeBlanc’s decision on the trial.
