A Fredericton woman was well aware what she was doing and what the potential consequences were when she pleaded guilty to fraud last fall, a judge said, denying her request to withdraw those pleas.

Florence George Yousef, 56, of Willington Court, appeared before Court of King’s Bench Justice Richard Petrie at the Burton Courthouse on Monday for a hearing to determine how her criminal-fraud case would proceed.

She pleaded guilty in October to defrauding two victims - Sheila Amos and Betty Fairley - of more than $5,000 apiece on Oct. 29, 2019, and March 31, 2021, respectively, in Fredericton.

However, when the time came for her to be sentenced this spring, defence lawyer Edward Derrah said his client was seeking to withdraw those guilty pleas.
