Fredericton under severe thunderstorm watch
Federal weather service issues alert for capital, nearby communities Tuesday evening
Fredericton and other communities in the region were under a severe thunderstorm watch issued by the federal weather service Tuesday evening.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather service said in a severe thunderstorm watch issued at 6:43 p.m. Tuesday.

The watch was limited in scope to Fredericton and southern York County, as well as the Stanley, Doaktown and Blackville areas.
The watch was lifted later Tuesday night.
The weather service issues such watch alerts when conditions are optimal for the development of thunderstorms that could bring with them large hail, dangerous winds and/or heavy rains.
“Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year,” the advisory stated, directing people to go indoors if they hear thunder.
Meanwhile, most of the province remained under a heat warning Tuesday evening, and a special weather statement has been issued for all areas of New Brunswick save the northern-most region, warning that the potential for heavy rainfall exists for Wednesday through Friday.
