RCMP reports 70-year-old motorcyclist died in single-vehicle accident in Dumfries on Friday
A 70-year-old Fredericton man is dead after his motorcycle crashed in a rural area a short distance from the capital, the RCMP reported Saturday.
The Keswick Ridge detachment of the RCMP issued a news release Saturday afternoon advising of the fatal incident in Dumfries, about 50 kilometres west of Fredericton.
“On July 26, 2024, at approximately 8 p.m., members of the Keswick RCMP detachment, Dumfries Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Route 102 in Dumfries,” it said.
“The collision is believed to have occurred when the driver, travelling eastbound, lost control and was ejected from his motorcycle.”
The motorcyclist was alone on the bike and died at the scene from his injuries, the release said.
The incident closed the highway for about three hours, the Mounties reported.
The investigation is ongoing, the release said, and an RCMP collision reconstructionist is assisting.
