Fredericton man gets eight years for drugs
Jared Blake Jude Stafford, 26, was busted twice in 2023 after motor-vehicle accidents
A Fredericton man is headed to federal prison after being busted with drugs following a reckless car accident in early 2023 and again a couple of months later after another wreck.
Jared Blake Jude Stafford, 26, elected to be tried in provincial court and pleaded guilty earlier this year to two sets of charges involving dangerous flights from police and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
He was back before Fredericton provincial court Judge Lucie Mathurin on Friday for sentencing.
Federal prosecutor Derek Weaver and defence lawyer Emily Cochrane offered a joint recommendation on sentence: eight years in prison.
Among the crimes for which he was being sentenced were March 31, 2023, count of possession of cocaine and crystal meth for the purpose of trafficking, possession of more than $5,000 in the proceeds of crime, dangerous driving and flight from police; and May 18-19, 2023, counts of possession of cocaine and meth for the purpose trafficking, flight from police, failure to remain at the scene of an accident, and theft of a cellphone and an SUV.
