Fredericton man denies swindling Staples
Soegiono Liem Swie, 49, will stand trial next spring on an allegation he defrauded the big-box store of more than $5,000
A Fredericton man accused of fleecing a big-box office-supply store of thousands of dollars over the course of a year denied the allegations Wednesday, and he’ll stand trial next year.
Soegiono Liem Swie, 49, of Abbott Court, faces a charge that he defrauded Staples on Prospect Street of more than $5,000 between Dec. 8, 2021, and Nov. 27, 2022.
Swie wasn’t present in Fredericton provincial court when his case was called Wednesday, but defence lawyer Patrick Hurley appeared to represent him.
Hurley entered an election of trial by provincial court judge and pleaded not guilty to the indictable charge on his client’s behalf.
The defence lawyer said he expects the trial will require three days of court time.
Judge Mary Jane Richards scheduled Swie’s trial for April 15-17, 2024.
