Fraud defendant has defence counsel… sort of
Miramichi lawyer Daniel Jardine says Brent Hayward Stewart, 49, of Doaktown, has hired him to review disclosure but not for purposes of trial yet on long list of scam complaints
A former used-car salesman who previously told a court he had retained defence counsel when he hadn’t now has a lawyer, but not for the purposes of a trial yet, court heard Friday.
Brent Hayward Stewart, 49, of Hazelton Road in Doaktown, was back in Fredericton provincial court Friday on 26 indictable counts of fraud and one of theft.
The charges arose from an investigation by the New Brunswick RCMP’s financial crimes unit into fraud complaints from customers of DMR Auto Sales in Pepper Creek on Fredericton’s north side between 2020 and 2021.
Stewart worked at the used-car dealership as a salesman during that period.
