Forgery draws community-based sentence
Brittany Virginia Gallant, 32, of Fredericton, sent phony lawyer letter in failed attempt to get extra child support out of her ex, threatened his parental rights if he didn't meet demand
A Fredericton woman who forged a letter to pose as a Fredericton lawyer in a scheme to get extra cash out of her ex isn’t headed to jail, as a judge imposed a jointly recommended community-based sentence.
Brittany Virginia Gallant, 32, of Charlotte Drive, was back before Fredericton provincial court Judge Natalie LeBlanc on Wednesday for the continuation of her sentencing hearing.
The defendant previously pleaded guilty to forging a document May 22, 20223, and shoplifting twice at Shoppers Drug Mart on Prospect Street, on Feb. 18 and 25, 2024.
Court heard last month that Gallant forged a letter from Fredericton lawyer Leah Good, a partner at the firm of Cox & Palmer, seeking additional child support from Matthew Gratton, her former partner and the father of her son.
