Employee fleeced Fredericton vet clinic
Virginia Rose Bear, 30, of Hillandale, makes full restitution of almost $4,000 for frauds
When a woman fleeced her Fredericton workplace for thousands almost three years ago, she was in the midst of an abusive relationship that saw her become addicted to drugs, a court heard this week.
Virginia Rose Bear, 30, of Route 130 in Hillandale, located up river about 75 kilometres north of Woodstock, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Tuesday for sentencing on two summary counts of fraud.
Crown prosecutor Rodney Jordan said the case arose when Dr. Shawn Smith, the operator of the Main Street Veterinary Hospital in Fredericton, returned to his clinic after a couple of weeks ago in late November 2021 only to be alerted by his bank of a couple of attempts to cash cheques from his business that raised red flags.
Bear was working at the veterinary hospital at the time, court heard, and it was discovered a couple of cheques had been cashed and had been made out to her boyfriend, Kyle Ingraham.
