Elderly sex offender accused of breach
Southampton man who sexually abused granddaughter charged with failing to register
An elderly Southampton man who was convicted after trial two years ago of sexually abusing his granddaughter for years now stands accused of violating an order to register as a sex offender.
The 76-year-old Southampton was sentenced to a conditional sentence of house arrest in 2023 for molesting his underage granddaughter for 10 years, beginning when the girl was four years old in 2006 and lasting until she was 14.
There’s a court-ordered publication ban in effect protecting the victim’s identity, and given the relationship between her and the offender, the Fredericton Independent isn’t naming him either so as to comply with the ban.
