Elderly man shot near Chipman
Two suspects sought by police in violent incident Sunday in Gaspereau Forks, says RCMP
A 75-year-old man sustained serious but not fatal injuries in a shooting Sunday near Chipman, the RCMP reports, and investigators are seeking tips about two suspects.
On Sept. 1, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Minto RCMP responded to a report of an individual that had been shot outside of a residence on Route 123, in Gaspereau Forks,” the RCMP’s crime reduction unit said in a news release issued Wednesday.
Gaspereau Forks is about 30 kilometres northeast of Minto, or 80 km east of Fredericton.
“When police arrived at the scene, they located a 75-year-old man who was suffering from a gunshot wound,” the release said.
“He was transported to hospital with what are believed to be serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Two suspects had since fled the scene.”
It said the first suspect was reportedly a man with a medium build wearing a mask, while a description of the second suspect wasn’t available.
"We believe that the two suspects were committing a break, enter and theft when the homeowner and the 75-year-old man arrived at the scene," Sgt. Mark Blakely with the New Brunswick RCMP's west district crime reduction unit said in the release.
"An altercation ensued, and a firearm was discharged at the 75-year-old."
People from the Grand Lake area took to social media in the days following the incident, complaining that police hadn’t issued an alert about the potential dangers or any information about the offence up until Wednesday’s news release.
“Police believe this was an isolated incident, therefore it did not meet the criteria for an Alert Ready message,” the RCMP said in the release.
Anyone with information about the suspects or the incident is urged to contact the New Brunswick RCMP at 1-888-506-RCMP (7267).

So sad, but if they shot one person and got away what’s to stop them from trying again? I think homeowners should be informed and on guard.
