A Fredericton man accused of killing a Miramichi husband and father by driving a dump truck dangerously has chosen to have his case heard in superior court.

Cameron McFee, 66, of Walter Close in Fredericton, was back on the Fredericton provincial court docket Friday for election of mode of trial on an indictable charge of dangerous driving causing the death of Daniel Frenette.

Frenette, 37, a husband and father from Miramichi, died July 12, 2023, when the dump truck McFee was driving collided with his SUV in Douglas.

McFee wasn’t present for Friday’s proceedings, but defence lawyer Edward Derrah appeared on his behalf and filed a designation of counsel that allowed the defendant to be absent for some aspects of the case.
