A Fredericton woman busted twice in 2023 for being grossly intoxicated at the wheel was spared a jail sentence this week because court heard she was in crisis at the time and is in recovery.

Elisha Dawn Stairs, 46, of Northumberland Street, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Tuesday to be sentenced for two offences related to being impaired while driving.

She’d pleaded guilty previously to a May 11, 2023, count of refusing a breath demand and a Sept. 30, 2023, count of having an elevated blood-alcohol level within two hours of driving.
