An impaired driver who went off the road two years ago not only had a smell of booze coming from him, but admitted to police he’d had “a puff of weed” as well, court heard last week.

Matthew Warren, 43, of Brookside Drive, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Wednesday. He’d previously denied charges alleging he drove while impaired, but he changed his plea to guilty Wednesday to having an elevated blood-alcohol level within two hours of driving.

Crown prosecutor Rodney Jordan said the RCMP was dispatched to the scene of a single-vehicle accident in McGivney, about 50 kilometres north of Fredericton, on May 27, 2022.
