Drugs, weapons found in stolen car - cops
Tyler Williams-Cleghorn, 32, faces numerous charges, released Thursday on Crown consent
A capital-region resident is slated to return to court later this month to answer to stolen-property and weapons charges arising from seizures from a stolen car, says the Fredericton Police Force.
The city police issued a news release Wednesday afternoon about a recent incident involving a stolen vehicle and the alleged discovery of illicit and ill-gotten items.
“On Oct. 6, the Fredericton Police Force patrol division responded to a call for service involving a suspected stolen vehicle,” it said.
“Upon arrival, police discovered the stolen vehicle and seized a significant amount of drugs, weapons and other items totaling more $53,000 [in value].”
Police arrested a suspect - Tyler Williams-Cleghorn, 32, of the Fredericton area - and charged him with counts of possession of stolen property, possession of a weapon, possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon without a licence, possession of more than $5,000 in proceeds of crime, possession of break-in instruments, violation of a court-ordered firearms prohibition and theft of a motor vehicle.
Upon being charged in court, Williams-Cleghorn was remanded pending a bail hearing set for Oct. 10, but that bail hearing didn’t proceed.
Instead, a prosecutor consented to his release on conditions, and he’s set to return to court Oct. 31 to elect mode of trial and enter pleas.
The police news release said that among the items seized from the stolen car Oct. 6 were 22-calibre bullets, stolen licence plates, a stolen vehicle registration for a different vehicle, an axe, a set of bolt cutters, a baseball bat, a portable CB radio, Halloween masks, a Taser, knives, pepper spray and $510 in cash.

Many of those items were believed to have been stolen, the police reported, noting their combined value, including the car, was estimated to be more than $40,000.
The police force also stated that suspected quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine and crack cocaine were found, along with a set of scales, packaging supplies, a case and a lockbox.
The suspected drugs were valued at almost $13,000, the release said.
