A Fredericton man accused of possessing hard drugs for trafficking purposes and a rifle after allegedly being pulled over in a stolen minivan told a court Monday he’s not seeking bail - for now.

Malcolm Andrew Peterson, 49, of Bridge Street, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by video conference from jail Monday, scheduled to go through a bail hearing.

However, duty counsel Josh Pozzolo told the court the defendant wasn’t seeking to be released from custody. Instead, he said, Peterson was reserving his right to a bail hearing, but asking that it be set over indefinitely.

Peterson said he’d applied for legal aid already and was seeking an adjournment ahead of his election of mode of trial and pleas.
