Drug stash found in abandoned car - cops
Fredericton Police Force turns to public for additional information about Feb. 15 incident
The Fredericton Police Force reported Friday that while a drug suspect was able to elude officers after a vehicle pursuit last month, the car was later found, as was a cache of illicit drugs.
“On Feb. 15, members of the Fredericton Police Force attempted to conduct a stop of a motor vehicle. The vehicle, which had previously been associated to illegal drug activity in the Fredericton area, failed to stop and fled from police,” the force said in a news release Friday.
“After a short search, the vehicle was located in a parking lot and suspected drugs could be seen through the window.”
The force’s integrated enforcement unit was called in to assist with the case, the release said, and it sought a search warrant for the vehicle, which officers executed Feb. 22.
Seized from the vehicle were quantities of methamphetamine, hydromorphone (Dilaudid), a kind of sleeping pill called zopiclone, and methylphenidate (Ritalin).
Also found were a naloxone kit, used to revive drug users who have overdosed, and a digital scale.
No arrests have yet been made, the release said, and the investigation is still ongoing.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Fredericton Police Force at 460-2300, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to provide tips anonymously.
The news release made no mention of the make or model of the vehicle searched, where it was first spotted when the driver fled, or where it was found.
