A Fredericton man who admitted to having meth for trafficking purposes last year nevertheless proclaimed his innocence Thursday, but a judge refused his request to withdraw his pleas.

Scott Cameron Powers, 50, of Irvine Street, pleaded guilty in September to possessing methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and possessing a weapon (plastic knuckles) for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, both of which occurred June 16, 2023, in Fredericton.

His sentencing hearing was delayed a couple of times, and when it was finally to unfold in Fredericton provincial court Feb. 10, he asked the court to withdraw those guilty pleas.

Powers, representing himself, was back in court Thursday for a hearing to determine if he’d be allowed to do so.
