A Tobique First Nation woman found passed out at the wheel of a car after it had crashed more than a year ago was under the influence of a powerful opioid at the time, court heard Tuesday.

Jerrica Gabrielle Bear, 33, of Muwin Road, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Tuesday and pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while impaired by a drug.

Crown prosecutor Geoffrey Hutchin said Mounties were dispatched to Keswick at 6:45 a.m. Jan. 17, 2024, after receiving a report of a single-vehicle accident.

Officers found a woman at the wheel of the vehicle, which was off the road, as well as three male passengers, he said, and all were passed out.

All four occupants appeared to be intoxicated, court heard, and none appeared to be injured.
