CORRECTION: Double drunk driver pleads guilty
Kristopher James Wagnies, 40, of Fredericton, admitted to being impaired at the wheel twice in span of a year, and second time saw him leave scene of accident
A Fredericton man will be sentenced this fall after he admitted Monday he was busted for driving drunk in two instances, a year apart.
Kristopher James Wagnies, 40, of Canada Street, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Monday and pleaded guilty to May 11, 2023, counts of impaired driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
He’d also previously pleaded not guilty to a separate May 1, 2022, count of impaired driving, but he changed his plea to guilty on that charge as well Monday.
Defence lawyer Spencer MacInnis said her client was seeking a pre-sentence report, and prosecutor Marc-André Desjardins asked for the preparation of a victim-impact statement related to the May 11 incident.
Judge Mary Jane Richards scheduled sentencing for Oct. 16.
Desjardins asked the court to impose an order prohibiting Wagnies from driving until that time, and the judge granted that Crown request.
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story indicated the crimes occurred May 1 and 11, 2023, but that reporting was based on flawed information from the court file.
