Doaktown man jailed for breathalyzer refusal
Ian Scott Washburn, 54, has several prior convictions for impairment offences
A Doaktown man busted last year for refusing a breath demand and who skipped a court date will be spending New Year’s Eve in a less than festive environment.
Ian Scott Washburn, 54, of Pleasant Street, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Wednesday for sentencing for two crimes.
He pleaded guilty in October to refusing a breath demand April 23, 2022, and failing to attend court Aug. 17.
Court heard Wednesday that Washburn has several prior convictions for impaired driving and refusing breath demands, and the mandatory minimum sentence in such circumstances is 120 days in jail.
Judge Cameron Gunn imposed that four-month jail term for the refusal charge, and a concurrent one-month stint behind bars for the no-show offence, making Washburn’s total jail sentence four months.
The judge also prohibited the offender from driving anywhere in Canada for three years following his release from jail.
