Detainee changes mind about bail
Library break-in suspect Kelly Gordon Kleim, 30, opted last week to forgo seeking release
An unhoused man charged in the wake of a break-in and vandalism at Fredericton’s main library branch has changed his tune about his wishes on his potential release from custody.
Kelly Gordon Kleim, 30, of no fixed address, was charged in early October with Sept. 30 counts of breaking into the Fredericton Public Library on Carleton Street, stealing computer tablets there and causing thousands in property damage.
He was remanded on those charges, and also faces earlier allegations of a break-in and property damage at Booster Juice on Prospect Street on Sept. 9, threats to Judith Maillet and Hayden Gullison on Sept. 19 , and a failure to attend court Oct. 1.
He underwent a five-day psychiatric assessment earlier this month and was deemed last week to be fit to stand trial. During that proceeding, he also told the court he wasn’t seeking a bail hearing, though he reserved his right to request one at a later date.
