Crown says alleged phone calls between Isaiah Joseph Ernest Bonnar, 23, of Burton, and complainant in assault, sex-assault prosecution offer 90 hours of new evidence in case
New evidence has emerged against a Burton man set to go to trial later this month on assault and sexual-assault charges in the form of jailhouse phone calls to the complainant, the Crown alleged Thursday.
Isaiah Joseph Ernest Bonnar, 23, of Irene Street in Burton, appeared in Fredericton provincial court in person and in custody Thursday for a pre-trial proceeding.
He’s scheduled to stand trial June 24 and 25, and Sept. 23 on a long list of charges. He’d previously elected to be tried in provincial court and pleaded not guilty to a long list of charges, most of which alleged violence toward a Lincoln woman around the capital region between June and November 2024.
Among the alleged offences are sexual assault with a knife, unlawful confinement, assault, assault by choking, assault with a weapon and damage to property.
