Defendant denies menacing mother
Dominic Demerchant, 23, of no fixed address, enters pleas before getting defence counsel
An unhoused defendant accused of threatening his mother denied the allegations Monday, but he admitted to breaching a court order barring him from having contact with her.
Dominic Demerchant, 23, no fixed address, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by telephone Monday from the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre, set to enter pleas to three charges alleging offences against his mother.
Duty counsel Josh Pozzolo said Demerchant is still in the process of applying for legal aid but wanted to go ahead with his pleas as scheduled.
Demerchant pleaded not guilty to June 10 counts of uttering threats to cause his mother, Amy Demerchant, death and/or bodily harm in Douglas and uttering threats to burn her Douglas home.
