Defence attacks complainant's credibility
Dwain Everett Gardiner, 48, of McAdam, stood trial this week and last before jury in Court of King's Bench on assault, firearms charges in case of alleged vigilantism in McAdam
A jury was urged to consider credibility and common sense in assessing key witness testimony in an alleged case of vigilante justice.
On one side, the defence characterized the complainant as a deadbeat drug addict and criminal who can’t be trusted, while the Crown said the defendant’s story doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.
Dwain Everett Gardiner, 48, of Rockland Drive in McAdam, has been standing trial before a jury in the Court of King’s Bench at the Burton Courthouse for the past two weeks on four charges arising from a noteworthy case of alleged vigilantism.

He’s accused of assaulting Blake Scott, pointing a firearm at him, possessing a firearm for a dangerous purpose and confining Scott unlawfully, all on June 4, 2022, in McAdam.
After several days of testimony - including evidence from Gardiner himself - the trial moved to closing arguments Thursday.
