Debby does downpours
Federal weather service warns of heavy rainfall Friday, Saturday for most of New Brunswick
Almost all of New Brunswick will be getting drenched this weekend as the region feels the effects of a nearby tropical storm Friday and Saturday, the federal weather service advised Thursday.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a special weather statement Thursday afternoon, giving the province a heads-up about some major precipitation on the way.

It indicated heavy rainfall was possible - totalling 30 to 40 millimetres - beginning Friday morning and lasting until late Saturday throughout New Brunswick, save for eastern areas of the province.
“Areas of heavy rain associated with the remnants of tropical storm Debby will affect parts of New Brunswick Friday into Saturday,” the weather statement said.
“Embedded thundershowers are also possible that could enhance rainfall amounts in some areas.”
The New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization advised residents of the province to ready themselves and their homes for expected high winds and rain.
The provincial agency said New Brunswickers should prepare for risks of localized flooding, power outages and storm surges, including the gathering of a 72-hour preparedness kit.
It also noted people might want to prepare their properties by trimming trees, securing loose items around homes and clearing gutters and storm drains.
“Remember to stay alert, stay informed and stay safe,” the New Brunswick EMO stated on social media Thursday.
