The prosecution failed to request a necessary expert report on key evidence in a robbery case in time for trial Wednesday, prompting a judge to deny an adjournment request and to acquit the accused.

Darrin Alexander Chalmers, 34, of Union Street, was scheduled to stand trial in Fredericton provincial court Wednesday on indictable charges of robbery and having his face masked during an offence.

The case stemmed from an alleged robbery at Dooly’s on Main Street on July 3, 2023, during which a perpetrator with his face covered by a scarf robbed an employee at the business of cash.
