Route 8 reopens after northside crash
Multi-vehicle accident at Route 10, Barkers Point Bypass closes traffic for hours Saturday
A collision involving at least three vehicles at the intersection of Greenwood Drive/Route 10 and the Barkers Point Bypass/Route 8 saw the highway closed for hours for the police investigation Saturday afternoon.
Personnel with the Fredericton Police Force, Fredericton Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick were on the scene of a collision that occurred shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday at the busy northside intersection.
A small red hatchback could be seen in the middle of the bypass in the aftermath, its front end demolished.

Two other damaged vehicles - a black SUV and a blue sedan - could be seen in grassy areas on either side of Route 8 as well.
The nature of any injuries sustained by those involved in the crash is not yet known, nor if there were any fatalities. Ambulances responding to the scene did take individuals to hospital.
The Fredericton Independent reached out to the Fredericton Police Force to inquire about injuries and if any charges are pending, and it’s still awaiting a response.

City police officers remained on the scene for hours, inspecting the wreckage, clearly as part of an investigation.
A member with the police force’s forensic identification unit was also present, taking photos to document the scene.
The force issued an advisory through social media at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, reporting an accident had occurred and directing motorists to avoid the area.
Police had Route 8 at the intersection blocked to traffic, and debris still covered the roadway, even as late as 4 p.m. Saturday. However, by 5 p.m., the police force advised on social media the highway bypass had been reopened to traffic.
“The scene is now cleared, road opened,” it said in a post on social media. “We thank the public for their patience and co-operation.”
