A New Brunswick man was busted with crack cocaine because he was found passed out at the wheel of an SUV on the wrong side of the road outside Fredericton in 2023, court heard Monday.

Nicholas MacDonald, 30, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty earlier this year to an Aug. 2, 2023, count of possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and he was back in Fredericton provincial court Monday for sentencing.

Federal prosecutor Derek Weaver said the RCMP received a report at 7:07 a.m. on the date in question about a possible impaired driver.

The caller said there was a man passed out at the wheel of a vehicle in the French Village area, about 15 kilometres west of Fredericton, he said.
