Counsel assigned for teen murder suspect
17-year-old boy charged in Nasonworth homicide case set to return to court Thursday
A prosecutor suggested Tuesday that a teenage homicide suspect’s bail hearing be postponed to give his new lawyers a chance to get up to speed on the case.
But a judge kept the proceeding on the docket for later this week, as originally scheduled.
A 17-year-old Nasonworth boy was charged last week with second-degree murder last week after the sudden death of a 34-year-old man the morning of May 13 at a Nelson Drive residence in the community south of Fredericton.
The minor’s identity is protected under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. As it’s still unclear what the relationship is between the teen and the victim, the Fredericton Independent isn’t identifying the deceased either so as to avoid a potential violation of the publication ban.
