A university student charged after a couch-fire incident on College Hill last summer won’t have to answer to that allegation, but he has pleaded guilty to an obstruction offence.

Caysey William Walton, 21, of Kings College Road, was charged earlier this year with counts of failing to prevent the spread of a fire to a couch and obstructing a Fredericton police officer engaged in the execution of his duty.

The charges stemmed from an incident in the College Hill area of Fredericton on Aug. 31 in which a couch was set on fire - part of a disruptive trend in recent years that saw discarded furniture and other discarded household items set ablaze outside parties in off-campus student housing.
