Cops probe gunshot incidents, vehicle fires
Fredericton Police Force is seeking tips on reports of firearms discharges in capital in April
The city police report there have been several grave incidents - including reports of shots being and a vehicle being torched - that it believes are potentially related.
“The Fredericton Police Force is investigating several serious incidents that have occurred in the recent past in various locations throughout the city,” it said in a news release Tuesday.
“There were no injuries reported as a result of the incidents, and police believe all incidents were intentional, targeted and related. While it is not believed there to be any ongoing threat to the public at large, it is recognized that these reckless acts of violence jeopardize the safety and security of our entire community.”
The release said the force’s major crime, street crime/drug and forensic teams, as well as patrol officers, are investigation the following incidents of concern:
April 12: report of shots fired at about 1:30 a.m. at a residence on Royal Road near Williams Street;
April 15: report of shots fired at same location at about 2:10 a.m.;
April 19: vehicle fire at about 11:40 p.m. on Bear Drive;
April 20: vehicle fire at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Sunset Drive near Claremont Drive;
April 20: windows broken at residence on the 600 block of Forest Hill Road at night, though it was reported to police April 21 at about 10:45 a.m.;
April 21: report of shots fired at about 2 a.m at a residence on School Street;
April 22: report of shots fired at about 4:25 a.m. at the previous Royal Road location.
After a police canvas of the areas, investigators are now turning to the public for assistance in locating and identifying suspects.
