Cops issue parking-ticket scam alert
Fredericton Police Force says contrary to new scheme, city never issues tickets via text
The Fredericton Police Force is warning people that if they receive text alerts that purport to represent parking tickets, they shouldn’t click on the links provided or give personal information.
The force issued an advisory Wednesday morning that there’s a new text-based scam making the rounds in which fraudsters try to convince people they have outstanding parking fines from the City of Fredericton.

“These messages are not from the City of Fredericton,” the force said. “The city does not send parking ticket notices via text or social media.”
Legitimate tickets are only issues by way of a paper ticket on one’s vehicle or through a mailed notice to the registered owner of the vehicle.
Police warned against clicking any such links in the texts and against sharing personal information. The force also said people can report the scam texts to their cellphone service providers and that they should delete the messages.
“Please share this with friends, family, seniors and those who may not be on social media,” the advisory said.
People who feel they’ve been targeted specifically can also call the Fredericton Police Force at 506-460-2300 to report it or can file a report online.
