Cops closing northside intersection Tuesday
Traffic disruption planned at Greenwood Drive/Route 8 morning of Aug. 6, says police force
In the wake of a spectacular three-vehicle collision Saturday, the Fredericton Police Force has announced a planned closure of Route 8 between the Marysville and Pepper Creek areas Tuesday.
The city police issued an alert on social media Sunday announcing “a planned traffic disruption” set to begin Tuesday morning on the north side of the intersection at Greenwood Drive/Route 10 and the Barkers Point Bypass/Route 8.beginning at 9 a.m.
“Police investigators and collision reconstruction teams will be on site,” the post stated. “Work is expected to last approximately two hours.”

While traffic along Greenwood Drive and Route 10 will, as well as along the section of the bypass south of the intersection, it said, Route 8 will be closed to traffic just north of the intersection.
The announcement comes on the heels of a significant accident in the same section of Route 8 that closed the road Saturday afternoon while police investigated.
Monday’s post indicated the planned disruption Tuesday will not affect the following:
traffic from the Princess Margaret Bridge going to Route 10 or Greenwood Drive;
Route 10 traffic continuing onto Greenwood Drive (though some delays can be expected);
Route 10 traffic turning left from the Pepper Creek area toward the Princess Margaret Bridge.
However, traffic will be impeded during the relevant timeframe in the following ways:
no traffic will be permitted to turn left from Greenwood Drive onto Route 8 towards the Marysville area of the city;
no traffic on Route 8 coming from the Marysville area will be permitted to pass through the Greenwood intersection;
and no traffic will be permitted to turn right onto Route 8 towards Marysville from Route 10 coming from Noonan and Pepper Creek.
Saturday’s incident occurred just before 1 p.m. at that intersection connecting two key arteries on the city’s north side.
In addition to numerous officers with the city police force, personnel from the Fredericton Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick were on hand for the emergency response.

Ambulances did take people involved in the crash to hospital.
However, the police force has yet to indicate how many people were hurt, the extent of those injuries, if there were any fatalities and if any charges are pending as a result of the incident.
In the aftermath of the crash, a small red hatchback sat in the middle of the bypass with its front end demolished.
Two other damaged vehicles - a black SUV and a blue sedan - had come to rest in grassy areas on either side of the intersection.
Route 8 on the north side of the intersection was closed to traffic from the time of the collision until 5 p.m. Saturday as police investigated and documented the scene.
