Copper-theft suspects sprung from custody
Jason Phillip Cote, 45, and Riley William Novak, 28, released on Crown consent Tuesday
Two men arrested last weekend in an investigation into stolen copper wiring were released on conditions on the consent of a prosecutor this week, and they’re set to return to court next month for pleas.
The Oromocto detachment of the RCMP issued a news release Thursday morning about arrests Mounties effected last Friday stemming from the discovery of stolen copper wire at a rural property.
“In the early morning hours of May 16, 2025, members of the Oromocto RCMP received information that an individual was operating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) loaded with copper wire in Geary,” the release said.
“Shortly after, members of the Oromocto RCMP attended a residence on Broad Road in Geary and arrested a 45-year-old man, a 28-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy all from Geary. While at the location, police observed rods of copper wires on the property.”
