Cop-assault case resolved with discharge
Court hears Masoud Masoori, 33, of Lincoln, was in mental-health crisis during volatile encounter with Mountie earlier this year; prosecution withdraws more serious charges
A Lincoln man who’s struggled recently with his mental health won’t have a criminal record for a contentious encounter with an RCMP officer earlier this year.
Masoud Masoori, 33, of Nevers Road, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Monday, scheduled to enter pleas to three charges stemming from a Feb. 6 encounter with Mounties.
He stood accused of assaulting RCMP Const. Matthew Norzil, attempting to take away Norzil’s sidearm, and resisting Norzil and RCMP Const. Jeffrey Cameron.
Masoori pleaded guilty to the latter count of resisting arrest Monday, and the case proceeded directly to sentencing.
