Legal counsel for a Fredericton home-design and construction business entered not-guilty pleas on his client’s behalf Tuesday to WorkSafe New Brunswick charges arising from a 2021 jobsite death.

New View Designs by Laurie Cole Inc., located on St. Mary’s Street in Fredericton, was charged last year with three counts under the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Those counts - laid by WorkSafeNB, the province’s workplace safety watchdog - allege the business failed to ensure a metal scaffold was erected as per manufacturer specifications; that it failed to outfit that scaffolding with a continuous access stairway starting as required since it was more than six metres in height; and that it didn’t provide safety instructions for the protection of an employee’s health and safety.
