A Fredericton man was unhoused, using drugs and undergoing a mental-health crisis when he broke into a transitional home for immigrants last fall, but he’s since gotten help, a job and a home, court heard last week.

Brian Gerard Geneau, 61, of Churchill Row, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Thursday for a sentencing hearing.

He previously pleaded guilty to an Oct. 14 break-in at a Northumberland Street home, Nov. 1 counts of break and enter and mischief causing damage at a King Street residence, and charges of mischief causing damage to a Bell Aliant vehicle and theft of a gas card, insurance card and vehicle registration between Nov. 4 and 5.
