City man guilty of intimate-partner assault
Judge convicts Martin Robert Tyc of violent incident in car, acquits him broken-ankle charge
A Fredericton man who stood trial earlier this year on six charges alleging violence against his girlfriend was convicted of one of them Thursday, and he’ll remain in custody pending sentencing.
Martin Robert Tyc, 37, of Union Street, appeared in Fredericton provincial court in custody and in person Thursday to hear Judge Pierre Gionet’s decision on his trial on allegations of intimate-partner violence.
He was accused of an assault by choking on Sandra Andrade, assault with a knife, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a vodka bottle and possession of a knife for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, alleged to have occurred in Fredericton on Oct. 27.
Tyc was also accused of an aggravated assault on Andrade and unlawful confinement in the capital Nov. 12.
In rendering his decision, Gionet summarized the testimony the court heard at trial.
