City man acquitted of historical sex crime
Judge say evidence of Jeffrey James Tidd, 30, about consensual encounter with woman at 2015 Halloween party was more reliable given his better recall of decade-old incident
A Fredericton man who stood trial earlier this year on an allegation of sexual assault dating back 10 years was found not guilty earlier this month, with the judge saying she believed his denial of the crime.
Jeffrey James Tidd, 30, of Regent Street, pleaded not guilty last year to an indictable count of sexual assault, and his trial was held in provincial court two months ago.
Judge Natalie LeBlanc rendered her decision on the case June 2, finding Tidd not guilty of the charge.
In doing so, she reviewed the evidence she heard at trial to underline the reasons for her decision.
