City man acquitted of handgun charges
Judge says there was no evidence Brian Christopher Paul, 45, knew of handgun, loose ammunition in truck he was driving in October 2023, though he admitted to being impaired
A judge said Tuesday the Crown failed to prove that a Fredericton man had any knowledge of a prohibited handgun and loose ammunition in the truck he was driving, and acquitted him of firearm charges.
Brian Christopher Paul, 45, of Maliseet Drive, previously stood trial before Fredericton provincial court Judge Mélanie Poirier LeBlanc on charges arising from a city police traffic stop Oct. 4, 2023.

Paul had pleaded not guilty to possessing a 9-mm SCCY CX-2 handgun while prohibited from having firearms by a court order; possessing the handgun knowing he didn’t have a licence or registration certificate for it; occupying a motor vehicle while knowing that firearm was in there; and possessing that loaded, prohibited handgun without authorization.
