Capital region under thunderstorm watch
Weather service warns conditions are ripe for extreme weather, including strong winds, hail
Wednesday’s humid conditions have led to a severe thunderstorm watch in the Fredericton and Oromocto areas, with the possibility of powerful winds and large hailstones, the federal weather service warns.

Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the southwestern corner of New Brunswick shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Affected areas are Fredericton and southern York County, Oromocto and Sunbury County, and St. Stephen and northern Charlotte County.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail,” the alert stated. “Local utility outages are possible.”
The advisory also offered a reminder that when there’s thunder, lightning tends to accompany it, so people should remain indoors during such conditions.
