Capital offers police-academy program
Fredericton Police Force will take on 12 cadets in 2025, hire them upon course completion
Fredericton is getting its own police academy in a deal aimed at addressing the city police force’s recruitment needs and staffing shortfalls, the chief announced Monday.
We probably won’t get a cool cop who does his own sound effects, like in the movies, though.
Fredericton police Chief Martin Gaudet told reporters Monday that the Fredericton Police Force is partnering with the Atlantic Police Academy, a division of Holland College in Summerside, P.E.I., to offer a satellite academy program in the New Brunswick capital, beginning in 2025.
Through an application process that opened Monday and continues until June 14, he said, the Fredericton Police Force will accept 12 cadets into its program in January for a 32-week program consisting of 20 weeks of instruction and 12 weeks of on-the-job training.
