Jared Smith, 38, arrested after Oromocto First Nation woman was found dead Saturday
A Burton man is slated to appear in Fredericton provincial court Monday on a charge of second-degree murder in the death Saturday of an Oromocto First Nation woman, says the RCMP.
The RCMP’s major crime unit issued a news release Sunday afternoon, announcing police had arrested Jared Smith, 38, of Burton, on Saturday and charged him Sunday with second-degree murder.
“On April 27, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m., members of the Oromocto RCMP responded to a call for service at a residence on Oromocto First Nation,” the release said.
“When police arrived at the scene, a 54-year-old woman from the community was discovered deceased.”
Smith was arrested Saturday as well in connection with the investigation.
The RCMP says it charged Smith with the murder charge Sunday by way of a weekend telephone remand appearance in provincial court.
Smith is scheduled to appear in court again Monday.
