The Fredericton Police Force has charged a city man with arson in connection with a devastating fire at a heritage building located in the capital’s historic Garrison District downtown.

Cole Christopher Harris, 28, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by telephone from the cellblock at the city police station Thursday morning.

He was charged with intentionally or recklessly causing damage by fire to a building at 11 Carleton St. and breaching a probation order, both March 12.

The charges arise from a suspicious fire that afternoon at a building housing the offices of Fredericton Tourism on Carleton Street, located in the historic Garrison District.
