The fire that devastated a historic building in downtown Fredericton on Tuesday has been deemed suspicious and is under investigation by the city police force.

Furthermore, the force confirmed Wednesday that the “person of interest” shown in photos it released Tuesday is someone officers wish to interview about the blaze.

The Militia Arms Store, a historic building constructed in 1832 in Fredericton’s downtown Garrison District and that served recently as the offices for Fredericton Tourism, was gutted in a serious blaze that took city firefighters hours to get under control Tuesday afternoon into the evening.

The Fredericton Police Force is seeking to speak with the pictured “person of interest” about Tuesday’s fire downtown. (Photos: Fredericton Police Force)
