Break-in suspect to undergo psych exam
Robert Tanner Banks, 30, of Fredericton, to be assessed at secure psychiatric hospital in Campbellton to determine if he's exempt from criminal responsibility due to mental illness
A Fredericton man accused of repeatedly breaching an order to have no contact with his partner and breaking into a northside residence has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment.
Robert Tanner Banks, 30, of Fredericton, was scheduled to go through a bail hearing Thursday on charges of breaching release order by contacting Jessica Jones three times last week; breaking into a Gulliver Drive home and forcibly entering that residence Oct. 24; and obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duties, fleeing from police and driving dangerously Oct. 26, all in Fredericton.
However, defence lawyer Ron Morris asked the court instead to order a 30-day psychiatric assessment to determine if Banks was suffering from a mental disorder at the time of the alleged offence that would exempt him from criminal responsibility.
